PostSubject: British and australian sheepdogs   Mon Nov 10, 2008 1:03 pm

Hi all,
I created this forum, to meet other sheepdog owners, mainly from Chicagoland, but of course for everyone, to share our experences, our problems, the good and bad happenings of our everydays, and/or to plan trips and other activities together with the dogs. In Hungary I'm a member of a forum like this....and being with some other people, who share my thoughts caused me a lot of happy moments. We often planned trips, long walks together, herding events or just a dinner without dogs... and the best thing was in that forum, that everybody wrote in only one "topic"...there were no other topics, like dogshows, or sports or "hey, look at my cute puppy")...we could speak about everything with each other under only one "topic", and learn a lot from each other. So welcome on board flower

So I'm Barbi and I come from Hungary....for a while I'm living in Evanston, IL. We arrived on mid October, and my 2-year-old australian shepherd boy, Vito traveld with me on the plane Exclamation
I'm a biologist-ethologist, at home I worked with dogs for 3 years, so Vito grew up in the ethology department among 2 and 4 legged friends. Certainly he lived at my home, but whenever I went to the University he came with me.... From 3 month of age Vito participeted in several kind of behavioural tests, to learn something about his attachment, his independence level, his aggression towards people Twisted Evil, his ability to use his mind in different kind of problemsolving tasks, and we learned to use the the touchscreen to solve tasks as well. Cool so he has a very busy puppyhood full of fun. As I had no car at home, he had to learn how to behave in the public transportation...unfortunately here we cannot use the CTA, so we are less mobile...
In Hungary Vito passed the herding instinct trial, and we started the serious work with one of my friends, Agnes Pinter, who learnt how to train sheepdogs in Scotland....
At the same time we learned the basics of obbedience, and we started to study how to became a discdog from Peter Seftsik, who is internationally recognised as a frisbee trainer and competitor.
We participated some Hungarian and external dog shows also, with excellent titles, but beside the judgement the main role of those shows was to meet and have fun with friends!!! bounce drunken

I share a pic of Vito, after a good late autumn swim in the Michigan lake Shocked Laughing

A weird thing came to my mind, while I was looking for photos of BOB winners. Take a look at the face of the european type of rough collie, and compare it with the face of the collie from the american line.... It's sooo interesting, how to change the expression of dogs belonging to the same breed, it shows us the preference and the idea of the people living in different continents.

the European type:

and the American one:

What a difference, isn't it interesting Question
